Your Path to Change Starts with a Simple Walk

Transform your life one small step at a time, literally!

You’re ready to transform. To move through pain, fears and limiting beliefs. To take a step forward.

So, why do it sitting down?

Here’s the thing: therapy has been taking place on couches inside small rooms since, oh, about 1880. Meanwhile, scientists have been uncovering the incredible power of nature and exercise to improve mental health and wellbeing. We say, it’s time to open the door to change.

EXPLORE EMOTIONS

People in talk therapy explore their moods, emotions and behaviours in a safe way. Your therapist is there to guide you every step of the journey.

MOVE GENTLY

The science is in: myriad studies have identified a link between movement and mood. Tap into the benefits with a gentle walk.

What is walk and talk therapy?

Picture this: Instead of rushing to your therapist’s office and waiting nervously for your appointment to start, you head to a nearby park. Standing beneath the trees, you take a deep breath of fresh air and feel a sense of calm wash over your body.

Before long, you begin to walk with your therapist (or their voice in your ears); there’s no awkwardness, weird pauses or uncomfortable note-taking action. You feel safe and supported and your problems seem figureoutable.

By the time you're ready to head home, you haven’t just immersed yourself in self-healing therapy, you’ve also spent time gently moving your body and absorbing nature. You’re feeling positive and looking forward to your next walking session.

Our Story

IT ALL STARTED WITH A CHEEKY PUP CALLED DION.

Yep! That doggo on the left has helped change 3,651 lives (and counting).

Our founder, psychologist Maz Miller, used to bring Dion to the office. Maz loved that office. It had huge windows with mountain views, and paintings of the beach on the walls. Scented candles perfumed the air and nature sounds drifted softly out of the speakers.

But, something was missing...

One day, in a moment of stagnation with a client, Maz suggested they take Dion for a walk. This client had been struggling to incorporate exercise into her lifestyle, so Maz figured, why not just do it right now?

Therapy took on a completely different shape during their walk. The beautiful scenery, the fresh air, Dion, the movement: it all worked to motivate and inspire both Maz and her client. As the session ended, Maz could tell that this was exactly what was missing from her practice.

She went on to trial walk and talk therapy with other clients and the results were unbelievable. People were literally walking their way through problems, improving their health and getting more out of every session.

So, Maz (and Dion!) started a movement. After seeing firsthand how powerful outdoor therapy can be, Maz launched walkandtalktherapy.com to share its benefits to connect you with your inner self and other local walk and talk therapists.

What people say

"I'd never heard about walking therapy until I came across this service and I wish more people were aware of how beneficial it can be for people who would get more out of sessions if they were up and moving in nature."

"The walking is so much better than sitting still in a room as it allows me to think more clearly and talk through what is going through my mind more effectively."

"Promote and expand the awesome offering you have to help more people, especially those for which sitting in a room really isn't the best way!"
